Autopsy of Matthew Perry Reveals Tragic Cause of Death
The untimely passing of “Friends” actor Matthew Perry has been attributed to the “acute effects” of the dissociative drug ketamine, as detailed in an autopsy report released on Friday. Perry, aged 54, passed away on October 28.
The autopsy report disclosed that the “acute effects of ketamine” were cited in conjunction with drowning. Contributing factors included “coronary artery disease” and the effects of “buprenorphine,” referencing the opioid partial agonist drug. Additionally, the report noted the discovery of “prescription medications and loose pills” at Perry’s residence. The manner of death was officially ruled as an accident.

According to the report, Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy, with the most recent session occurring approximately 10 days before his demise. Significantly elevated levels of ketamine, a hallucinogenic substance popularized as a club drug in the 1990s, were found in his system.
Officials speculate that Perry likely lost consciousness before submerging in water; however, the report does not clarify how the actor, known for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” administered the drug.
The actor was found lifeless at his Pacific Palisades, California home, specifically “discovered by a witness unresponsive in his jacuzzi,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced Perry deceased.
Beyond his iconic role on “Friends” from 1994 to 2004, Perry had a prolific career in television, appearing in series such as “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” He also graced the big screen in movies like “17 Again” and “Fools Rush In.”
Following Perry’s death, his “Friends” cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer released a statement expressing their devastation. They referred to themselves as more than cast mates, emphasizing their familial bond. They expressed their intention to share more in time and extended condolences to Perry’s family, friends, and fans worldwide.
Matt LeBlanc, who portrayed Joey Tribbiani on the show, shared on Instagram that the moments spent with Perry were among the “favourite times” of his life.
